Will Clearing My Browser Cache Delete My RiseOverride Data?

Published on by Team @ Slate eLearning

The Short Answer: No, Your Data is Safe! Clearing your browser cache will NOT delete your RiseOverride customizations. Your CSS code, JavaScript files, colour palettes, and settings are all safely preserved. More importantly, you are in complete control of your data—we don't use external servers or store anything outside of your own Chrome browser.

One of the most common questions we get from RiseOverride users is about data safety when clearing browser cache. It's a completely understandable concern—you've spent time creating custom colour palettes, writing CSS code, and configuring your settings. The last thing you want is to lose all that work!

Here's what makes RiseOverride different: your data never leaves your computer. Everything stays locally in your Chrome browser using Chrome's own native storage system. No cloud servers, no external databases, no data collection—just your customizations, safely stored on your own device.

Your Data Stays With You

RiseOverride was designed with privacy and data ownership in mind. Instead of storing your customizations in your browser's cache (which can be cleared) or on external servers (which we don't have), we use Chrome's dedicated extension storage system. This means:

  • Complete local control: Your data never leaves your computer
  • No external servers: We don't operate any cloud storage or databases
  • No data collection: We can't see, access, or collect your customizations
  • Chrome's native protection: Your data lives separately from temporary browser files

Think of it this way: Your browser cache is like temporary sticky notes that can be thrown away, but RiseOverride stores your data in Chrome's permanent filing cabinet—one that only you have access to.

What Stays Safe When You Clear Cache

All of these important elements remain completely intact:

Your Custom Code

  • All CSS styles you've written - Every custom style and modification
  • JavaScript code and functions - All your interactive elements and custom behaviors
  • Uploaded .css and .js files - Any files you've imported into RiseOverride

Design Elements

  • All your colour palettes - Every palette you've created for different clients or projects
  • Custom colour names and hex codes - All the organized colours with their descriptive names
  • Palette organization and grouping - How you've structured your colour collections

Settings & Preferences

  • Automatic patching preferences - Your configuration for how RiseOverride applies changes
  • Live CSS preview settings - Your preferred preview options
  • Extension configuration - All your personalized settings

Common Cache-Clearing Scenarios

Here's what happens to your RiseOverride data in different situations:

"Clear browsing data" in Chrome settings

✓ Safe: Your RiseOverride data remains completely intact. Only temporary website files are removed.

Browser restart or computer reboot

✓ Safe: All your customizations load automatically when you open Chrome again.

Using Chrome on different devices

Note: If you're signed into Chrome, some settings may sync across devices, but custom code typically stays on each individual device.

Uninstalling and reinstalling RiseOverride

⚠ Caution: This WILL delete your data. Always export your palettes and back up your code before uninstalling.

Best Practices for Extra Protection

While your data is automatically protected, we recommend these backup practices:

  • Export your colour palettes occasionally using the Export button in the Colour Palettes tool
  • Copy important CSS/JS code to a text file as backup for complex customizations
  • Document your custom block classes if you use many of them

How RiseOverride Storage Works

For those curious about the technical details, RiseOverride stores your data using Chrome's chrome.storage API, which is completely separate from your browser's cache, cookies, and localStorage. This storage is:

  • Persistent across browser sessions - Survives restarts and updates
  • Protected from cache clearing operations - Unaffected by standard cache cleaning
  • Specific to the RiseOverride extension - Isolated from other browser data
  • Automatically managed by Chrome - No manual maintenance required

The Bottom Line: Feel free to clear your browser cache anytime you need to! Your RiseOverride customizations, colour palettes, and settings will be waiting for you exactly as you left them. More importantly, your data remains completely private and under your control.
